Criticism of the Vaccine Summit

Tue 27th Apr, 2021

Green Party leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt sees a need for further clarification after the vaccination summit. "So that the vaccination campaign can develop more speed in the coming weeks with better vaccine availability, there should have been clear agreements and preparations today for the early involvement of the more than 10,000 company doctors," Göring-Eckardt told the newspapers of the Funke Media Group.

It must also be quickly examined whether the approval for certain vaccines for children and adolescents could be extended or how children could receive vaccination protection more quickly in other ways. He said the vaccination summit left many questions unanswered "and lags behind reality."

"Removal of restrictions on vaccinated people is overdue"
The Green Party politician was pleased to hear about possible relief for vaccinated people that could come into effect after May 28. "That restrictions can soon be reliably and responsibly withdrawn for those who have already been vaccinated and those who have recovered is good and overdue." It must be clarified quickly, he said, how proof of vaccinations or survived Corona disease is to be provided in practice.

The German County Association, on the other hand, expressed disappointment. "The restrictions should be ended as quickly as possible, except for the general hygiene and behavioral rules for vaccinated persons," said Landkreistag President Reinhard Sager. "Here we would have expected clearer agreements." He said it was right if a negative antigen test was already sufficient, especially for the retail trade and the gastronomy, this would finally offer a perspective.

The Association of Towns and Municipalities expressed a similar view. "The fact that no final agreement has yet been reached at the conference of minister presidents with the Chancellor on lifting the restrictions on basic rights for fully vaccinated citizens is regrettable," said Chief Executive Gerd Landsberg.

Oliver Funken, chairman of the North Rhine General Practitioners Association, welcomed the decision to lift the prioritization. "We welcome the fact that the pace in the vaccination campaign is finally being increased. Every vaccination is a step towards normality," he told. That's why it's also important that restrictions on vaccinated people are rolled back, he said. "More freedom for vaccinated people must be the result," Funken demanded.
