A Dachshund Parade Is Taking Over the Champs-Élysées This Sunday

The Paris Sausage Walk is in its 7th year, and up until now it's always run along the Seine. This is the first time it's moving to the avenue: starting near the Arc de Triomphe, down to the Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées, back again, 1.4 kilometers total. People start gathering at 10am, the walk runs 11 to 1.

Why It's Moving After Six Years on the Seine

Six editions by the river each pulled in more than a thousand dogs, so turnout was never the issue. This year the Champs-Élysées Committee is backing the move, which is a strange thing to picture if you sit with it for a second, an official body formally signing off on a parade of small dogs with short legs taking over one of the city's main streets.

You don't need to own a dachshund to walk along. Anyone can join. The event raises money for Teckels Sans Toît ni Loi, which rescues and rehomes abandoned or mistreated dachshunds, and this year it lands on World Animal Day too, unplanned but convenient.

It's Not the Only Dog Event That Day

A separate event, the Animal Walk, is also happening October 4, though it's shifted to western Paris this year after its debut on the Champs-Élysées last October drew over 600 people. So the city ends up with two different animal-focused walks, in two different parts of town, on the same Sunday.

For the Sausage Walk itself: gather near the Arc de Triomphe end of the avenue by 10am, walk starts at 11, free for anyone to join, dog or not.
