Mangroves help curb CO2

A new study, published on July 30 on Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, concludes that conserving mangroves would be a viable way of significantly reducing worldwide CO2 emissions. The study estimated how much carbon is stored in mangrove ecosystems worldwide, how much of these mangrove will disappear through deforestation and the economic costs and benefits of protecting mangroves to determine whether it is economically viable to save these trees.
Their results affirm that conserving worldwide mangrove forest would provide an economically viable way of mitigating global CO2 emissions.
