Wiesn Hotels Increase Prices by up to 400%

Tue 14th Sep, 2010

Munich. Visitors of the Oktoberfest can expect hotel prices to jump up in the near future.

A two star hotel in Munich increased its prices during Wiesn by 400 percent, and has been critised by the civic economic department. Another hotel demanded 500 euros instead of the usual 79 Euros for one night for a single room. Price increases during Wiesn are common, but usually are 'only' about 300 percent, as reported by the tourism department during spot tests.

Fair director Klaus Dittrich accused the hotel keepers in June this year of scaring away visitors of the "Bauma" exhibition due to the price increase. The economic department writes: "The complete overpricing damages tourism and congress destinations in Munich."
