WWII bomb found near Hauptbanhof

Thu 1st Apr, 2010

Munich. A bomb found near Donnersbergerbrücke on Thursday stopped train and car traffic around Munich central train station.

A 1000-pound bomb from World War II was found in the morning during construction work in the new Arnulfpark area at Erika Mann Street (between Hacker and Donnersbergerbrücke). After 2 p.m. the bomb removal process had completed and train and car traffic resumed. The situation was not without danger: "The detonator was still functional," said a police spokesman, "Therefore we have evacuated the area'€.

As it is just before the Easter holidays, the implications for traffic, however, was significant and rail traffic to the Central station had been interrupted. Regional trains and all  S-Bahn lines were affected. This afternoon train delays and cancellations are to be expected, informed Deutsche Bahn.
