Town Festival Flooded

Fri 18th Jun, 2010

Erding. Heavy rain on thursday evening flooded the east of Bavaria and kept the fire brigade busy.

According to the fire crew, at 7.15 PM parts of the town centre in Schwindkirchen were flooded. In addition, water pouring into a barn threatened animals in Unterschiltern. At least a dozen cellars were flooded in the entire county including Erding, Ottenhofen, Aufkirchen, Gatterberg and St. Wolfgang. The mobile phone network collapsed temporarily in those areas and the power supply in Dorfen was shaky.

A thunderstorm with torrential rain ruined the start of the folks fest in St. Wolfgang. The Goldach turned into a rapid current and flooded parts of the fest. The fire brigade was in action for hours. Electricity had to be turned of for security reasons. The good atmosphere in the festival tents continued: the band kept playing - even unplugged.
