Heavy continuous rain has caused chaos on the streets of Munich and Bavaria.
Munich - After the hottest days of the year, the weather in Bavaria has now turned icy cold. Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused chaos on the roads in the early hours of Thursday. The areas most affected are: the district of Berchtesgaden, Miesbach, county and city of Rosenheim, Landkreis Bad Tölz, Wolfratshausen and Traunstein district.
Because of the incessant rain, flooding along streams, smaller rivers and flooding of roads may occur (for details: www.hochwasserzentralen.de).
Esden Riedering near Rosenheim was severely affected by the storm. A fire caused concern for the city but it was the flood that held Riedering in suspense. The main road through the village was submerged in 1.5 meters of water and several cellars were flooded. The clean-up will probably take some days.
In Munich, the flood caused traffic jams and obstructions especially in the area of the Innsbruck-ring. People are advised to close all windows and doors! The Weather Service for Munich and the County has forecasted sustained thundery rain. 25-40 litres of rain per square meter may occur during the warning period.
The MVG reported weather-related deviations on almost all bus lines. The S-Bahn also registered delays and obstructions.
