Oktoberfest: City council requires prices disclosure

Wed 21st Apr, 2010

Munich. Reservations at the Oktoberfest are getting more expensive. The city council has decided that in May Oktoberfest hosts must disclose booking conditions along with the prices for drinks.

More people with lower incomes are unable to afford to pay such sums, which is considered too much for a folk festival. On Tuesday, the city council stated that hosts must publish their reservation prices in May. If that will not help moderate prices, next year the city will make licenses dependent on the reservation prices.

With every year the Oktoberfest hosts demand more. The Hippodrome tent last year charged 90 euros for its "Premium" package, and 60 euros for the "Classic" package.

If the Oktoberfest hosts avoid the disclosure requirement of their reservation prices and continue to set high charges, the state capital reserves the right to audit Oktoberfest contractual obligations and booking limits for 2011.
