Manchester jet veers off runway at Munich airport

Thu 3rd Nov, 2011

Over 200 passengers escaped uninjured after a Singapore Airlines plane, a Boeing 777, slid off a runway at Munich international airport and came to rest on an adjoining grass verge.  No emergency evacuation of passengers was required.

The flight, SQ327 from Manchester to Singapore, made a scheduled stop in Munich at 12:10 CET.  The plane was due to continue its journey to Singapore at 13:10 but was cancelled due to the seriousness of the incident.  Alternative arrangements were made for passengers to continue their onward journey.

Investigations into the cause of the incident have begun but as yet the airline has not released a statement.
