Fri 18th Jun, 2010

Munich airport. On wednesday 2,800 cigarettes were hidden in a suitcase and confiscated by customs officers at Munich airport.

During an airport control a customs officer noticed multiple cartons of cigarettes as the luggage went through the x-ray. The suitcase belonged to a 50 year old Austrian business man, arriving from Abu Dhabi, and he did not claim the goods. "According to him, he got the cigarettes as a gift from an arabian customer and didn't make himself familiar with the entry requirements", says spokesperson Thomas Meister of the customs office in Munich.

Tax proceedings will be filed against the man. He had to leave a security deposit of 1,000 Euro. Tax expenses are estimated to be about 550 Euro.
