Train station shut down by abandoned bag

Tue 21st Aug, 2012

There was a security scare at Munich's Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) on Saturday when a piece of abandoned luggage was discovered. According to the police, travellers had reported that a blue suitcase was standing alone in the train station. Although announcements were made, no one came forward to claim the bag.

Explosive experts were called, and part of the station had to be evacuated as a result of the security concerns. Ultimately, an announcement was made that the suitcase only contained clothes and documents. The owner of the suitcase, who had gone shopping, emerged a short while later completely oblivious to the trouble that had been caused. As a result of the incident, nine trains were cancelled and a number were delayed. dpa
